Verse 1
At recess by the climbing frameHannah wore a yellow hat
Some bigger kids took it and ran
They laughed and teased her as she sat
She looked down at her shoes awhile
While playground voices filled the air
One boy heard her quiet sigh
And felt a knot of shame in there
Chorus
Choose friends who help you do what’s rightBe kind in all you say and do
When others dare you to be cruel
You can be brave and choose what’s true
God’s love can help our hearts be strong
And turn a wrong into a start
Choose friends who help you do what’s right
And lead with kindness from your heart
Verse 2
Sam went home and told his mom“I took her hat and joined the fun
I knew it wasn’t kind or fair
I wish I’d stopped before I’d run”
His mother held his hand and said
“Choose friends who help you do right
Be kind, don’t follow hurtful plans
Even when the crowd feels loud tonight”
Chorus
Choose friends who help you do what’s rightBe kind in all you say and do
When others dare you to be cruel
You can be brave and choose what’s true
God’s love can help our hearts be strong
And turn a wrong into a start
Choose friends who help you do what’s right
And lead with kindness from your heart
Bridge
Next day he brought the hat backAnd said, “I’m sorry. That was wrong.”
Maya smiled; he asked her to play
They found a game where all belonged
The bigger kids could learn it too:
A caring choice can change the day
Final Chorus
Choose friends who help you do what’s rightBe kind in all you say and do
When others dare you to be cruel
You can be brave and choose what’s true
God’s love can help our hearts be strong
And turn a wrong into a start
Choose friends who help you do what’s right
And lead with kindness from your heart
